If you are interested to starting a team building program in your group or company there are a few ways to do it.

The first thing to do though is to develop the plan from the ground up or hire a company to develop the team building program for you. This is a great option but it can be very costly.

For the larger corporate companies or groups the cost may be negligible but for most the cost is a bit too high. Eliminating the outsourcing leaves one option and that is to build your team building program from scratch yourself.

You can buy ready made programs to help you with team building but the real guts of team building is covered during the seminars on the topic. Yes you can actually go to a team building seminar. When a dentist needs to learn things he or she goes to a dental seminar so if you want team building information why would you not go to a team building seminar?

Seminars are great since they allow you the opportunity to meet individuals with similar goals from all over the country and in some cases the whole world. During these seminars the speakers cover topics such as leadership and teams as a whole. There are also a handful of workshops at any team building seminar that you can get some hands on experience from.

These seminars are great for the team building newcomer or the experienced alike. Actually, I spoke with the person that developed the program at my old corporation and they said that they got virtually all of the ideas for our corporate team building program from a team building seminar. Amazing huh?

While at these seminars you have the opportunity to purchase books, tapes and DVD’s to help guide you through building your own program but the awesome part of that is the manufacturer and often the developer of the products is right in front of you to field any questions you have. There is nothing like test driving the products and having such a great asset right in front of your nose to ask questions to and voice concerns to.

Personal views

I am convinced that next to the mentors that I had at the company my single most effective learning resource for team building was the team building seminar I attended every year. There is really no comparison to the environment of a seminar. Try one and see if it is all I say. I know it will be and so will you.
