Improve company morale and efficiency with quality teambuilding ideas

team building

The entire idea behind putting teams together whether they are sports related or business related is to accomplish a mission. For small businesses to large ones it is usually to increase employee morale, performance and efficiency and ultimately increase profits.

The thing is that the majority of business owners and managers feel that putting together a team is simply gathering a group of individuals together and giving them a task and the desired outcome. This is simply not the way it works. A team is more than a group of people but an interdependent cohesive unit that succeeds and fails together.

A team depends on the individual members to complete their tasks and pull their own weight to complete the group mission. The right teambuilding ideas can help this along.

Trust is the key

Without the team being able to trust one another and depend on one another the team is no longer a team. In addition to improving efficiency and profits good teambuilding ideas can also allow the participants to have a lot of fun. You can implement teambuilding into your weekly meetings to turn the dull and dreary gathering into a fun and exciting event that just happens to benefit everyone in the process.

At what cost

Not all teambuilding ideas cost a lot of money as some of the best ones just involve the basic items you would find in any home or office with not additional funds needing to be spent. As for the idea that teambuilding activities take a long time that is false. Tons of wonderful teambuilding ideas only take minutes to complete and enjoy but have lasting effects. Of course if you want to spend a lot of time and money on your team building programs then you can look to hire an outside company to help you come up with great teambuilding ideas and implement them. The thing is that not all team building companies are created equal. Some of these companies are really qualified to take your money and others are not. When looking into team building program companies there are a few things to look at.

The first thing that you want to learn about a teambuilding company is what assessment instruments are they certified in. A couple of catch words are D.I.S.C and Myers Briggs and you need to know if these are things that you need them to be familiar with or not. The knowledge of the company is what you are paying for as anyone can read about some fun teambuilding ideas but only really knowledgeable personnel can implement them correctly. You must ask the team building company how they plan on using their ideas to fit your particular work needs.

Teambuilding ideas are not only used for fun and relationship building, they are used to teach work related tasks like decision making and leadership. The company that you hire should have a teambuilding philosophy. Most companies will happily furnish you with all of their information that expresses what their teambuilding philosophy is and how they fit it to the company that hires them to make them more of a cohesive bunch. There is nothing wrong with asking for references of other companies that have used them and experienced the teambuilding ideas they have to offer. As the reference how the team building company helped them through obstacles and challenges to improvement.

Start teambuilding off small

If you want to start off slow there are a bunch of teambuilding ideas that you can try to implement by yourself in the privacy of your office. One of our favorite beginner ideas is the minefield. This teambuilding idea is simple and involves a couple of team members and an assortment of items from the office. In a nutshell, one team member will blindfold the other and then scatter the items all over the floor. The items can be erasers, chairs, books etc. The task of the non-blindfolded member is to use only their voice to guide the blindfolded one to the other side of the room without hitting any mines. This game is fun and teaches communication which is at the core of all effective teambuilding programs. Who participates, how long they have and the amount and type of mines is up to you so be creative and learn from it.
